I may have found my airplane
The Tiger from Tiger Aircraft. It's the descendant of the Grumman Tiger, which is itself a descendant of Jim Bede's BD-1. And, although they don't seem to be playing it up much on their website, the Tiger is now available with the Garmin G1000 glass cockpit.
One interesting note is their analysis of the cost of ownership over five years (PDF). If you fly 150 hours a year, you can supposedly own the plan for less than $90 per flying hour averaged over those five years. I probably wouldn't be able to get in 150 hours a year by myself, but in partnership with one or more other people, it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility. Hmmm....
And, of course, with the slide-back canopy, you can fly with the canopy partially open. Wheeee!
